You better open the door……the closet door, that is.
This week’s topic: the very first [and only the first!] person you came out to.
Bridget and I switched days for this week—she’ll be coming at you on Wednesday!
Also, head to our ask and tell us the story of the very first person you came out to so we can share it with everyone! We’re also here to talk and for topic suggestions.
Lastly, the title of this on YouTube is “You better open the door before I take a hammer to the walls around it…” The first 2 people on Tumblr and the first 2 people on YouTube [comment on the video] who correctly identify that song/artist to me will win a prize…which, since I’m a bit tight on cash, will probably just be a letter and some goodies from me, but will probably include some of my photographs. So, what song is it?
The Day of Silence is for allies too! Help spread the word in any way you can, no matter who you are and who you love.
(I unfortunately cannot be entirely silent because of various singing obligations but I am sending you all strength and support!)
Send us your Day of Silence stories here.
Bridget and I teamed up for our video this week! Come on, how cute are we??
This week is all about Day of Silence, which is this Friday.
Sometimes I catch myself thinking that Day of Silence is a little silly, but the power it has to raise awareness to people outside the LGBTQ community. The only time I participated in Day of Silence was actually before I ever identified or thought about identifying as anything other than straight.
Day of Silence reaches people. Find out how to get involved at http://www.dayofsilence.org/
Please share your Day of Silence stories with us so we can post them throughout the week [or maybe just on Friday, depending on how many we get]. Have you ever been involved with Day of Silence? How did it affect you? How did it affect others around you or how did they react? What’s your personal motivation to participate in Day of Silence? Do you know of any straight allies who participate in Day of Silence? Let us know!
My first queer event was the Queer Social at my University’s Pride Center, tell us about yours in our ask!
(I apologize if any of this doesn’t make sense, I got a little cut happy to get to the final version, may have trimmed something I wasn’t supposed to.)
